[He does appreciate the turn of phrase, but the idea of Linn's guests being all nobles does make him 'hm' in a knowing way.]

I dealt with a lot of nobles back home. It's very rare that they see those they deem as less as full people.

[maybe he has been already, or at least misrepresenting them. In Linneus' mind, after all, he chose to be there. Even if he didn't have a clear idea what he was letting himself in for, hadn't he forfeited his right to voicing his feelings about it at all?]

...it was complicated - people can be different, and I do not mean to say that there were behaviours in one group not found in the other. Some would enjoy being talked back to, for example. [A soft chuckle, tucking back his hair - as if he would talk back to anyone.] But money makes things more complicated, I think. If someone is of the mind that they are paying for something...

I'm not one to turn my nose up at sleeping with as many men as I can but I do not like how it is compulsory here. Everyone should always have full control of their sexuality. I wonder if the people here fully understand consent...

I think it should be a person's choice. But that can be... coloured, sometimes. There are things we may tell ourselves that... perhaps affect how we might see things.

[And Linneus knows he is guilty of this - because he had to carry on working at the Teahouse. If he'd stopped he would have lost everything, everyone, that he had cared about. If he'd stopped, he'd have risked losing his home.

It was easier to tell himself the absolutes, rather than consider that if he could have stopped without consequences, he would have. Or what that really means.]

The quotas are not difficult for me - they are a relatively small price to pay for the freedom in my daily life, not just the freedom to choose. But I have had the experience of... making myself comfortable with that intimacy. Not everyone is, and that they must... force themselves into it, or risk punishment? It is not comfortable.

The punishment is the main thing, for me. The threat that if I don't do it, something terrible will happen to me.

It is. I... would consider myself quite good at setting some things out of my mind but that has been harder and harder to do. Especially since the Fort.

I am thankful for what it has brought me. But I wish this place were not as it is.

I can at least say the same about meeting you. There are some benefits to this place. It's a shame so much of the rest is terrible.
